Preparing for the flu: Healing your body
From Phoebe Sol, Reiki Practitioner, Board Member and Founding Member of the Vermont Reiki Association.
I would add to your preventative list:
washing hands more frequently and eating nutritional foods (remember, "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.")
Foods:
Green tea,
kimchi,
raw milk yogurt
garlic
echinacea
elderberry
lemon balm
astragulus
St. John's Wort
are natural remedies for preventing and treating viral infections
Here is a great vinegar infusion recipe, packed with antimicrobial and warming herbs, perfect for fending off bacteria and viruses during the winter season. This can be added to
salad dressing
, soups/stews, miso, vegetables, marinades, etc.: Chop up the following:
1-2 heads of garlic
1 large onion
1 large piece of ginger root
1 small to large piece of fresh horseradish
1-3 hot peppers
In a mason jar, add:
A handful of peppercorns (optional)
Enough apple cider vinegar to cover the plant material and then strain.
Reiki
is another excellent preventative measure. A study conducted in 1997 using electrodermal screening (a method for detecting functional disorders and disease through transdermal microelectric examination of the skin) showed that Reiki has "quantifiable benefits in the strengthening of the immune system." (
Alternative Therapies
, July 1997, Vol. 3, No. 4)
An important area of the body to receive Reiki, during the
cold and flu season
, is the thymus gland, the major gland of our immune system. (Can you see people lining up for a free thymus gland treatment, kind of like a
flu shot clinic
? :)
Blessings and Good Health,
Phoebe
Unpaid Testimonial: Dr. Michael Janson was my family doctors since I was 7 years of age. He is world famous and an expert on nutritional medicine. He saved my life when I was a little girl. My body became resistant to antibiotics and several times I almost died. My parents followed his regime of healthy eating and vitamins for me and my sister.

Jean O'Neil
